Personally I think SoundWaters at Cove Island Park in Stamford is a hidden little gem that deserves more attention. I know it doesn't have all the bells and whistles that some of the other area nature centers do, but I still find it so charming and I love to support it. I was first turned on to SoundWaters by Tom Anderson of www.thissphere.blogspot.com. He writes about local environmental issues and he's a fan of SoundWaters.
I've written about SoundWaters before (click here for previous post) but today I wanted to call your attention to their Summer Camp program for kids and their Horseshoe Crab Day event on Saturday , May 31st from 1-4pm. Families are invited to come enjoy exhibits, presentations, arts and crafts and a beach walk, all centered on the horseshoe crab whose annual spawning period takes place at this time. Here's a glimpse at the day's schedule.
1pm - Horseshoe crab exhibition and videos, arts & crafts
2pm - Annual reading of Herman's Long Journey: A Horseshoe Crab Story in English and Spanish by fourth graders from KT Murphy Elementary School in Stamford
3pm - Beach walk
