What to Do This Weekend?

Want to return to the holidays of yesteryear? Before Jamie Lynn's pregnancy and sexually assaulted Santas (I'm not making this up, click here for the story)? I sure do! This weekend there are a bunch of really nice holiday activites around Fairfield County that I hope will help you and your family slow down and reflect on this great time of year!

Darien's Annual Hope Lights Live luminary project takes places Sunday (Dec 23) at Tilley Pond Park. At 5pm hundreds of luminaries will be lit on the pond to honor families involved with the Center for HOPE and The Den for Greiving Kids. Participating families in the neighborhood will light up their homes at the same time as part of the event. From what I hear, it's a a beautiful scene and great for the entire family. For more details click here.

New Canaan Nature Center's Nifty Nocturnal Hangout takes place this Friday (Dec 21) evening from 6:30-9pm. You can drop the kids off for pizza, crafts and hiking while you wrap up some shopping and/or go enjoy a little quiet dinner for two in town. Details can be found at www.newcanaannature.org/programs/youth.php4#nifty.

If you're looking for something with more action for the whole family, why not go ice skating at the The Rink at Longshore in Westport? You can grab snacks, lunch or dinner at nearby Joey's by the Seashore. Visit the rink's website for rink schedules and more information.

And better late than never (sorry I didn't post this earlier!), but tonight is the last night to see the Paul Tudor Jones estate in the Belle Haven section of Greenwich (next to the Belle Haven Yacht Club) all lit up for the holidays! From 5-8pm you can tune your car radio to 90.5 fm and watch a 3 minute light show set to the music. For a NY Times article about this event, click here . I'm still trying to track down directions to the estate. I'll post back here when I find them but also feel free to reply to this post if you can get to it before me!

Finally, this Friday is the last of the Holidays on Heckscher Farm event at the Stamford Museum & Nature Center. They're inviting families to enjoy complimentary hot cocoa and to stroll along their luminary paths from 9am - 7pm. At 7 o'clock , the observatory opens up for a viewing of the night sky.Sounds like an event that's perfect for all ages and great way to get into the holiday mood. For more details, visit http://www.stamfordmuseum.org/eande.html#DEC. There is no charge for admission.

Hope everyone enjoys the weekend!
