My friend is a volunteer with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation of Fairfield County and she asked me to pass some information on about this important event:
The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation of Fairfield County will host its annual Spring Gala Saturday, April 25, 2009 at the Hyatt Regency Greenwich. The event’s theme will be “Tides.”
The theme will evoke Miami's South Beach, well known throughout the world for its dazzling and sensual style. Co-chairmen, Melissa Monsey, of Bridgeport, and Robin Eekhof, of Darien, are planning to entertain and charm their guests’ senses with a modern and sophisticated coastal theme.
The gala also will honor long-time friend and New Canaan resident Charles Lynch, founding partner of Stamford-based Clearview Investment Management, for his dedicated support to building greater awareness and support of JDRF in the community.
Lynch is the father of six children, two of whom have type 1 diabetes: 23-year old, Ryan diagnosed at age 12; and 21-year-old Patrick, diagnosed at age 18. Lynch has been involved in diabetes fundraising since 1990. Ryan also was the Find a Cure speaker at the Gala in 2005. Lynch lives in New Canaan, with his wife, Susan, and children Matthew and Emily.
The Fairfield County gala, which is one of the largest JDRF events in the country, last year raised $1.2 million for research toward the cure for juvenile diabetes, a disease which affects the lives of more than 21 million children and adults.
JDRF, the world’s leading charitable funder of type 1 diabetes research, was founded in 1970 by the parents of children with juvenile diabetes—a disease which strikes children suddenly, makes them insulin-dependent for life, and carries the constant threat of devastating complications. Since inception, JDRF has provided more than $1.6 billion in direct funding to diabetes research. Eighty five percent of JDRF’s expenditures directly support research and research-related education. JDRF’s mission is constant, to find a cure for diabetes and prevent and treat its complications through the support of research.
