New Year's Activities for Kids In and Around Fairfield County

Now it's time to start thinking about what to do for New Year's! Personally, I like to lay low and relax at this time of year, but now I have a child to think about so even I might come out of hibernation for one of the events below:

First Night Westport/Weston: It's an alcohol-free celebration on New Year's Eve and there are a ton of activities for adults and kids. Among everything you'd expect (fireworks, face painting, jugglers, balloon artists, etc.), there's also an indoor playground set up at the Family Y Upper Gym from 3-6pm, sponsored by Trader Joe's, Battle of the Teen Bands from 7-10pm at Toquet Hall and two performances by The Viola Question, a comedy troupe from Yale. Their show is appropriate for all ages and it takes place at 3:30 and 5pm in Toquet Hall. I can't possibly list all the activies here, so be sure to visit the First Night Westport/Weston website at http://www.firstnightww.com/. On the site you can see a full schedule of events and buy a button for admission.

A similar event is taking place in Danbury. For more details about First Night Danbury visit www.citycenterdanbury.net/events/first-night.

Ok so it's not in Fairfield County, but it's nearby.... the 1oth Annual New Year's Day in Scott's Corner (Pound Ridge, NY) takes place Jan 1 from 11am - 5pm. Shops and restaurants will be open and offering special treats and deals to celebrate the holiday. If you've never been, Scott's Corner is a quaint little stretch of town that's fun to visit any time of year... check out the Gift Garage, a great shop full of unique toys, books and accessories for the person that has everything! Don't leave the store without having your gifts wrapped. The Gift Garage is known for its exquisite wrapping. For more details about the store visit www.jensgiftgarage.com and for more details about the New Year's Day Event, visit www.poundridgeny.org/bacalendar.htm

Also worth a visit is The Barnum Museum in Bridgeport who's playing a big role in the city's Best Night Event on New Year's Eve. Visit www.barnum-museum.org/cal.htm for more details.

Finally just an FYI, I know a lot of you were planning to go to the New Year's Eve Bash at the Stepping Stones Museum in Norwalk. I learned that the event is cancelled. Not sure why but thought I'd share that.
