Thanks for Sharing the Best and Worst Fall Activities in Fairfield County - Apple Picking, Pumpkin Patches, Hayrides, Haunted Houses........

(In the *going green* spirit, I've even started recycling old posts like this one from October of last year. Why not? It contains info I dug up plus some from readers about the best fall activities in Fairfield County and many of them are still relevant this year. Feel free to share your own ideas. Thanks!)

So it's finally fall! I love this time of year and all that goes with it. I've placed some calls and consulted my friend Google to find the best places to enjoy the season in Fairfield County, but would love if you could weigh in about the best places to pick your own apples and pumpkins or take a hayride with kids. Also, for the older kids, I'd love to know where the freakiest, most sh** your pants haunted houses are in Fairfield County.

Please email me at fairfieldcountychild@gmail.com with your favorite spots and I'll add them to the list below. Or better yet, hit COMMENT below and just DIY. I've only visited Silverman's in Easton, which is awesome and which I'm sure you're all familiar with, but I hear these others are great too:

Pick your own apples Saturdays and Sundays between 10am and 5pm. Also noteworthy at Beardsley are their special apples specifically grown for hard cider (click here for details). I think I have a new favorite orchard! :)

On Saturdays and Sundays in October starting at 10:30am, kids can take a hayride, ponyride, check out some farm animals and peruse the hay bale maze. All for $1. Call for details. 203.325.3445

Every Saturday and Sunday in October, kids can visit the pumpkin patch or take a hay ride. Click here for details.

Hayrides, pumpkin picking, corn maze... there's a ton going on here.

Check out their famous CORN MAZE. Reservations required. You can also take hayrides at Plasko's.

Pick your own apples, visit the pumpkin patch and win a free pumpkin, take a hayride and listen to some live bluegrass.

Finally, here's a link to some local haunted houses. My friend tells me the one in Wallingford is worth the drive: www.hauntedhouse.com

Jones is one of my favorite farms. The pumpkin patch is amazing.

We've gone to Harris Hill Farm in Litchfield County every year for the past four. We like the drive, we wait until the leaves are pretty. Small farm and nice people. Animals to pet, corn maze, pick own pumpkins.

I'd like to try Silverman's, too, though. Glad to hear you like it.

OK - having just hit Silverman's this morning, let me warn those whose children are as afraid of insects as mine:

It's bee heaven there. They were EVERYWHERE. Couldn't even picnic because they had my kids in hysterics.

Don't sweat it, FFC. The apple picking part was GREAT: Today's picking was Jonagold, Golden and Red Delicious, and Macintosh. And the other kids we went with were totally fine. It was only mine who were terrorized.

Went to Jones Family Farm yesterday and just to let you know, the pumpkins there are a FORTUNE! You might think it's worth it for the scenery, but an average size pumpkin (3 for $18 at Stew's) is $12 dollars. Even the tiny little pumpkins are $1.50 each. Kind of a rip-off and it takes awhile to get there too.

We left there and went right to Stew's. Got 3 huge pumpkins, 2 medium pumpkins, a bunch of weird gourds, and 3 gorgeous mums for $46. It would've been over $100 at Jones. Just saying.

I really think that it is always fun to go to a pumpkin patch or corn maze or even a haunted house if your kids are old enough. It is a lot of fun and totally is worth the time and effort to go make a memorable moment with your kids. www.hauntedutah.com/forest.html

I love going to haunted houses. I'm glad that you put that post in for the local ones. I didn't to go to very many good ones last year, so I'm looking to make up for that big time this year.
